Interview Radio-Canada | 2023 | Îles-de-la-Madeleine

The Mer Océane symposium was held in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine in 1998 and brought together many important artists, including the sculptor Charles Daudelin and the painter René Lemay, both now deceased.

Filmmaker Richard Lavoie (Le Nadine… On a accusé les morts) was there and filmed parts of the event. He later made a film, Mer Océane, recently assembled from this archive material and presented as part of the PANORAMA / visual arts events of the Site de la Côte in the archipelago.

We discuss it with René Lemay’s son, Yann Beauregard-Lemay, who himself experienced the symposium at the age of 10.
