Opening of the silkscreen exhibition of René Lemay — À Marée Basse | 2017

René Lemay (1934–2015) painted the Magdalen"s for more than 20 years, never tiring of the wild beauty of the place and the insularity it imposes. The Islands were at the heart of the artist’s pictorial practice; he divided his life between Asia and this Quebec archipelago.

We are pleased to invite you to come and admire the new collection of silkscreen prints by René Lemay, inspired by the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. The opening will take place at Galerie À Marée Basse, on La Grave, on June 27 from 4 p.m. The exhibition will run throughout the summer.

This new collection highlights six sketches of the Islands he made between 1995 and 2013, discovered by chance in a notebook by his children. This opening will allow you to revisit places you may already know, but through a new lens—the ever-renewed vision of Lemay.

The edition of 45 works was produced by Cassandre Boucher, responsible for the silkscreen work at Atelier Circulaire in Montréal.

Best wishes,
