I go rent a motorbike for 15,000 rupiah. Here I am on the bike heading toward the Neka Museum in the north of Ubud. You have to be careful because the traffic is very dense. On the way, I spot a gallery: the Agung Rai Art Museum, near the Campuhan ridge. I stop for information and meet a man named Rudi; he is from Denpasar. I tell him I am looking for a studio in Bali. He knows several painters, including Paul Husner, a Swiss painter. My motorbike parked, I decide to go with him to meet this artist.
Here we are at his house, it is full of people, friends. First contact: headband on his head, about fifty years old, he greets me, he seems friendly. He introduces me to his guests and to his wife, Tine Ruiter, who is an anthropologist. He invites me to have a beer with them. He shows me his house and his work, very interesting, monochrome blue and a nearly naïve style, very vibrant. He tells me he has two paintings at the Neka Museum — interesting!
The studio is adjacent to the house, lots of flowers, the environment is superb. With his friends, we talk about my exhibition. After quite an academic discussion, I decide to leave; his wife holds me back, she gives me her card, Paul wants me to visit other museums. It is a beautiful day, I am happy about this chance encounter. Now, I head to my other meeting: I am going to sketch the rice fields of Bali with a local artist
